Can anyone tell me the difference between IF and #IF. Some people IF think is more for imagining bigger possibilities, where #IF is shorter more everyday 'ifs'. Can anyone give me a better idea of the differences, or are they really the same?
I reserve the use of IF (I am assuming the initialized "i" by the eye) for hypotheticals: Like saying "suppose" you're walking down the street, and you .... If I buy in bulk, would you give me a discount?
While #IF (assuming you mean the spelling it out I*F) is more of consequences/contingencies: If you do this, this can happen... If you go, I'll go etc.
and then there is the "If" signed like "judge" without point at your temporal which I also for contigencies and consequences...
Conceptually, "if", IF, and #IF are all suppositions.
In my experience thus far, I have seen #IF used
as a semantic emphasis, akin to bolding in
type-written word. I also think of #IF as what
we would refer to as the "BIG IF" in English...
(i.e., someone saying, "that's a pretty big 'if'".)
in English. #IF is definitely a "a great many
things hinge on this happening" kind of emphasis.
