How did you first learn Sign Language?

I was born in NYC and when my parents decided to move to PA I had a Deaf classmate. We played on the same tennis team and became really good friends. She taught me ASL and I took it upon myself to learn as best I could. In high school I had a teacher who was a CODA and had a Deaf husband and Deaf kids. She helped me get an internship at the Scranton State School for the Deaf where I volunteered inside the classrooms. After all of this I was addicted to the Deaf community and interpreting.
