I started working at a camp for the disabled on Long Island, NY. At that time, there was a big Deaf group. But I really started learning ASL at the age of 15, when I became close friends with someone who is Deaf of Deaf. Then, I went to the University of Rochester. In my sophmore year, the school hired a Deaf professor. It was there that I started learning the grammar of ASL...and I've been hooked ever since!
