While working at the RIT Library, I realized there was only one person on staff that could sign, so I decided that for the Deaf students to get equal access, I should learn to sign, so I took classes at NTID. That was in 1990, and I continued to take classes over the years.

Hi Wendy! Yes computer and technie stuff is where I do my best work. As for specific resources I have always found it helpful to understand the material more than sign vocabulary. At least for me, the Deaf consumers I have worked with had the vocabulary if I did not know something specifically. The real benefit became evident when topics such as business logic layer, model view controller, etc. came up I had a pretty good understanding of what they were talking about and how it worked. Though I could never write a single line of code. haha
I would be glad to work with you. Will e-mail you privately to discuss the details.
Welcome! Join a group, start a group, post an upcoming event in your area, start your very own blog... share your knowledge, experience and opinion with other interpreters. Thanks for being a part of TerpLink.
In response to your question posed to Robb about what makes TerpLink.com different; this site is completely independent from any VRS provider, interpreting agency, etc. You are free to create a public or private discussion group. The site is full of great Ajax web technology so that you do not have to refresh the entire page everytime. There is a chat room tucked away down to the right of the browser. There is not much activity there yet but with time and a topic it should prove beneficial.
I would welcome your feedback and suggestions on we, including yourself, can make TerpLink something of value.
For example, I see you have indicated you would like to be mentored by another interpreter. Hover your mouse over the Colleagues menu, click Mentors and you'll be presented with all of the fellow interpreters here who have indicated they would like to mentor another interpreter. Strike up a conversation with one of them and set about a virtual mentoring. Upload your video practice, asking for feedback, critic your own work.
Most of all, meet your colleagues and enjoy the great work we do.
