Ed Glass Interpreter Fail

So, someone very close to me (a deafie) had an appointment today. It was a 5-hour driving course. An interpreter (I know as an acquaintance) was scheduled to interpret. Now, my deafie is very HoH (using the Deaf definition of that, btw) and is very proud to use his digital hearing aid to get himself through many appointments. It has happened in the past (many times that I'm personally aware of) that an interpreter simply does not show up for an appointment. I do not believe it has anythi… Continue

Melissa C Trying to improve things..

Hello Interpreters! I am currently Free Lance Interpreting in Memphis, TN. Interpreters here working in the community are underpaid in many different ways and I'm trying to do something about it. I'm putting together information on interpreting agencies across the country. If you wouldn't mind telling me a bit about any Sign Language Interpreting agencies in your area I would greatly appreciate it. The information I am collecting is below. What is the name of the agency? Is it a profit or non-p… Continue

Daryl G Crouse Are you ever curious what VRS providers and others are saying to the FCC?

Well, if you've ever tried to find the docket at the FCC site, it is possible to find but there is no easy way to get updates. I have a treat for you! I wrote a script that takes the TRS (relay) comments, reports, filings, ex parte (without the public) meeting notices that providers have with the commission then rolls them all up into a nice web page and RSS feed. It's a little difficult to repost here so I'm going to refer you to my personal website. Go to… Continue

Daryl G Crouse YEA! Administrative Law class is over...

I just got my grades back from administrative law class. I got a B! I loved this class because it focused on the federal rulemaking procedures, public comment periods and federal agency justifications for rules. I feel lucky to have been in the class, because of the other students is a former Federal Elections Commissioner. How cool.. to have a previous federal regulator now in law school taking the class with me. He and I had some good stories to swap about the FCC and his FEC. Whew! Still n… Continue
