OK, I want the whole video relay world to pay attention to this, even though it probably wasn't the point of the video: Gina put her hands down between the rings. Physical therapists love this! Why load your shoulders and neck and upper back muscles just to ring the phone? Save it for the conversation, I say. In most calls, there will be plenty of it. Whenever you are ringing the phone, please remember that you are an interpreter and not a statue. Nothing in ASL freezes in the air for the length of time that there is a rest between the rings. (I am using "rest" as a musical term here.) Although it is intuitive to hold your hand in place, it is not healthy. In this multiple-rings-to-voice mail world, we are ringing the phones a lot. I hope that we are all thinking about how we do it.
